Our Estate wines are crafted from 100% estate grown fruit and are made on site in our winery. These elegant cool-climate varietal-focused wines are a reflection of our unique vineyard, surrounded by native flora and laden with deep mineral-rich red volcanic soils. Each release embodies the notion of terroir, painting a picture of our secluded corner of the Upper Yarra Valley with a stamp in time.
The 2021 growing season will forever be remembered as one of the greats in the Upper Yarra. Mild steady temperatures and average even rainfall resulted in good yields as well as balance and complex flavour development across all varieties. Harvest was able to commence in early March, which is preferable to the hotter daytime temperatures typically observed in February.
Fruit is handpicked predominantly from one east-facing block planted in 1996. We gently pressed the whole bunches and let the juice settle overnight in tank, before gravity filling barrels with full solids. Fermentation was wild and occurred naturally in barrel. We used a range of oak formats from 300L to 2,200L 500L – all French oak with approximately 30% new. Following primary fermentation, maturation continued in barrel and on lees for 10 months, with malolactic conversion not encouraged. The wine is then racked and filtered before bottling.
Of elegance, humility, and a sense of place – the nose is not boastful yet carries confidence. Soft stone fruits, nashi pear, custard apple, crème anglaise. There’s a freshness too, a suggestion of Lillet Blanc Spritz by a seashore.
The amazing acidity drives the palate with focus and varietal purity. A line of salinity gives the impression of cold Antarctic currents or oyster shells, while the balanced fruit character is generous yet controlled offering green melon and green Williams pear. Drink 2025 – 2030+

“An effortless wine that has power but doesn't feel as if it's been 'made' or forced in any way. Subtle stone fruits, spice and a mineral note that follows onto the palate which is simultaneously generous yet restrained; the acidity in total harmony with the fruit. In a word – lovely.”
