Our Estate wines are crafted from 100% estate grown fruit and are made on site in our winery. These elegant cool-climate varietal-focused wines are a reflection of our unique vineyard, surrounded by native flora and laden with deep mineral-rich red volcanic soils. Each release embodies the notion of terroir, painting a picture of our secluded corner of the Upper Yarra Valley with a stamp in time.
The 2018 growing season commenced with a cool winter and spring, with good rainfall filling the soils with desirable moisture. Vine growth was healthy, and we entered summer with an increased crop level. Summer was hot and dry, which meant all varieties began to ripen with vigour. Riesling reached optimal flavour development and was harvested on the 13th of March.
Fruit was handpicked into small buckets. We whole bunch pressed the juice to stainless steel tank and kept 30% on skins for 24 hours. We then lightly racked to well-seasoned 500L puncheons, where fermentation commenced wild. Maturation continued in barrel for 10 months on lees before the final wine was clarified, racked and bottled.
The nose is delicate displaying soft lime juice cordial, white florals and sweet baking spices.
The palate offers Key lime pie, soaked peaches and a bright yet creamy mouthfeel. Crunchy lime-sorbet acidity delivers a line of freshness. It will be an interesting one to watch as it developments through the decade. Drink 2021 – 2030.
